FAQ

  • Why is our bar soap better than commercial soap?

Commercial soap is mass-produced in a factory, and manufacturers have perfected the process to be as quick and cheap as possible. One of the most important ingredients of natural soap is glycerine. Glycerine is a natural by-product of the soap making process and is often removed by commercial soap companies. It is then sold to other manufactures that incorporate it into their skincare products such as lotions and creams. This is a key ingredient that attracts moisture to your skin making it feel smooth and hydrated. By removing the glycerine, store-bought soap takes on a moisture stripping effect that will leave your skin feeling dry and vulnerable to cracking and flaking. Scentric obtains ALL of our glycerine in our soaps!

Generally, mass-produced commercial soaps are less expensive and more readily available than handmade natural soaps. Our handmade soaps can often seem overpriced compared to other commercial soap. But it’s when you take into account the expensive but beneficial ingredients of oils and butter and the level of care that goes into producing it, you get what you are paying for.

  • Why purchase our bar soaps?

    Reason # 1

The glycerine is retained in our cold processed soap. Glycerine is an excellent element to soap because it is a natural humectant, attracting moisture from the air to your skin, helping to keep it soft and moisturised.

    Reason # 2

Our carefully selected ingredients for our soap bars contain rich, luxurious, and nourishing oils and butters that are moisturising and conditioning on the skin.

Olive Oil – High in antioxidants, Vitamin A, D, E, K, and polyphenols. High in Oleic acid.
Olive oil when absorbed into the skin forms a protective barrier against the elements. It also acts as a humectant, drawing moisture to the skin. Fatty acids will help aid skin cell regeneration.

Coconut Oil – High in Vitamin E, Lauric, and fatty acids. These fatty acids include linoleic acid
which can be beneficial for acne-prone skin and up to 50% lauric acid (which is hydrating and antimicrobial)

Avocado Oil – High in vitamins A, B, C, D and E oleic and as well as lecithin, potassium, Protein, Omega 3, palmitoleic acids. The high dose of phytosterols (plant compounds) in the oil help to prevent loss of moisture and keep skin hydrated, and the antioxidants will work to neutralise free radicals that attack skin cells.

Castor Oil – High in Vitamin E, Omega 6 fatty acid, ricin oleic acid. It attracts and holds moisture in the skin. It also acts as a humectant, drawing moisture to the skin. Easily absorbed by the skin making it a great skin softener and conditioner.

Shea Butter – High in antioxidants, Vitamins A, E, F and D, fatty acids, and minerals.
Shea butter gives the ability to moisturize and retain the elasticity of the skin. Rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids, this forms a breathable barrier on your skin that helps to protect it from the outside environment, holding moisture in and reducing your risk of dryness.

    Reason # 3

We produce soap in ‘small batches’ which means it’s all handmade with high attention to detail and quality. Small batches of handmade soap don’t allow for the lowest, rock bottom price. But they do allow for a more carefully, curated soap that is skin-friendly and better for your body.

    Reason # 4

Scentric makes ’ALL’ of our products right here in Australia and you are supporting a local business.
Unlike huge profits going back to large organizations based overseas, we are 100% Australian owned. In return, we support our local economy when purchasing ingredients and products from other local businesses.

    Reason # 5

We are proudly Palm Oil-free. The palm oil industry poses a serious threat to the survival of orangutans, along with other critically endangered species including the Sumatran tiger, Sumatran rhinoceros, and Sumatran elephant that share the same rainforest habitat.
Though Palm Oil can be produced sustainably, we have decided not to use Palm Oil.

    Reason # 6

We source out ingredients that are raised or harvested ethically and sustainably. Resulting in higher production costs but we cannot put a price on human social and environmental consequences.

  • How should I store my products?

SOAP BARS – Keep your soap bar away from water and allow it to air dry after use. Ideally, let it stand upright (Not facing down) so it can get better airflow around the bar and dry quicker. Doing these will dramatically increase the soap bar’s durability.

BATH BOMBS – Store them in a dry place. As moisture is the number one enemy for bath bombs which can cause them to disintegrate, it’s that reason why we protect with a thin film of plastic.

JELLY SOAPS – After use, drain any access water and pat dry. Store the Jelly soap in its original container that is dry. Close the lid tightly to prevent any water from getting in. Store in a cool position.

  • Why is my soap bar sweating?

Sometimes you may find that our bar soap is a little wet at times. A quality bar of handmade soap will tend to ‘sweat’ in humid weather due to the high content of natural humectants like glycerine. A humectant is a substance that absorbs moisture from its surroundings but not from the soap itself and will not affect any of the soap’s abilities. Soap sweating demonstrates that the humectant agents in the soap are just merely doing their job of accumulating moisture from the air, leaving your skin moisturized.

  • How long does our soap last?

The way you store your soap bar in between washes can make a huge difference in how long it will last. Since natural products like these do not have synthetic preservatives in them, they are bound to melt and evaporate faster than cosmetic soap bars. No hardening agents means quick evaporation when exposed to water and moisture. This is why it is advised to store them in a dry well-drained position between uses. If multiple people use the same bar of soap, the chances of it becoming completely dry are reduced. One way to resolve this issue is to give everyone a bar of soap and a place where they can store it between uses so it dries out

  • What is the size of your soaps?

Our standard bars of soap is approximately 8cm high x 7cm wide and 2.5cm thick.

  • Does handmade soap have a shelf life?

Although handmade soaps usually get better with age, we recommend using our soaps within 12 months of purchase. Scented soaps should be used within 3 months after purchase as scents from natural essential oil scents will fade over time.

  • What is the shelf life of bath bombs?

We recommend use of Scentric’s bath bombs within 3 months from purchase. This is to ensure freshness, aroma and bath bomb performance of bath art.

  • What is bath art?

When a Scentric bath bomb is placed into the water, the fizz will start turning the bath bomb and will release a burst of colour with every spin. To achieve best results, ensure the bath is filled with water and the tap is turned off and water is still. Relax and enjoy the delightful aroma.

  • How to clean the bath after use?

Just a simple cloth and warm running water works best. Wipe down any surface that may have any colour left behind.

  • Are your products vegan friendly?

Most of our products are Vegan and contain no animal products of any sort. The only animal products you may find in our products are the occasional addition of honey, beeswax, and goat’s milk. They are labelled accordingly.
